My Writing and NaNoWriMo

Wow, what a crazy few months it’s been. My thesis and all my final assessments have all come at once, plus I started this blog, plus my Bookstagram. It’s all happening. And despite all this I’ve still managed to write! I think some applause is needed because that is some crazy self motivation I had to conjure up to keep writing.

(And the crowd goes wild)

So lets take a walk through the last few months. As I said, I’ve been working on the third novel of my five novel fantasy series. This has taken the longest time to write, not because it is the longest story, but because I’ve taken holidays and lost motivation along the way. But I got it back! September I flew through my story and got to the beginning of the end for book three. This is my favourite part of all my novels, because this is generally the part of the story I’ve fleshed out the most. And so, as September ended, so did the hard part of my writing.

October is when I couldn’t wait to write everyday. I had my thesis to write, but I also needed to write these scenes, these important plot points. I needed them out of my head and onto the page. And I was so happy when those final scenes were written, there for me to read and reread at my leisure. If there are other writers reading this I’m sure you know the feeling. End of October meant the end of novel three, which means I’ve more than halfway through my fantasy series!

So as November began, I quickly reread book 1, fixed all the major spelling mistakes, and sent it to some beta readers, AKA my bookish friends, along with many, many questions on plot and characters. In January, we’re going to meet and they are going to tell me all the things I seriously need to fix. Which brings me to NaNoWriMo.

This November I’m rewriting and seriously editing book 1. I want to start getting serious, I want to make book 1 as good as possible. I know it will be hard, but I’m ready to put in the effort and not just write book and book without editing. So I know I’m only 16000 words into NaNo and am seriously behind, but it’s gotten me thinking about my story, it’s gotten me editing, and I really hope it keeps me motivated to write.

So are there other writers out there? Who else is doing NaNoWriMo? I’d love to hear your writing journeys.
